Leonard Long OAM

Born in Sydney in 1911, legendary Landscape Artist Leonard Long was raised in Mittagong, NSW where he developed his love of the Australian bush. He settled in Nowra in 1934 where he spent many years painting part-time with friends Gordon Esling and Walter Taylor, who through Grosvenor Galleries sold many of Leonard's works. After service in World War 2, Leonard returned to his watchmaking business in Nowra, and in 1955 he became a full-time artist. Leonard Long has held many successful Solo exhibitions in all Capital cities and many provincial centres Australia-wide. His work is held in Galleries and private collections worldwide and many of his paintings have been reproduced on prints and calendars. Leonard Long was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the 1993 Australia Day Honours List for his services to Art. His luminous paintings of the Australian countryside are highly sought after.
