Currently he is creating eye catching contemporary works using the pure design elements covered in his formal training (Art & Design RMIT) and inspired by the American action painters of the 1960's (Pollock and Rothko). After working and studying for more than two years in England Charles returned to Australia to become a full-time artist. He concentrated on the pursuit of oils and watercolours. His preferred style is representational, however he is constantly experimenting and pushing the boundaries preferring not to paint exactly what is before him but rather exaggerating form and colour, even delving into the semi abstract.
Charles has received numerous awards and commendations for his work exhibiting both in Australia and overseas. His work also hangs in Parliament House, Canberra. He is an exhibiting member of the Victorian Artists Society and Watercolour Society of Victoria.
